Большинство видов орлов отличают внушительные размеры, длина тела некоторых особей достигает 80-95 см, причем самка орла гораздо крупнее самца. Вес орла может составлять 3-7 кг. I shot this button buck Saturday night while sitting at the base of a giant oak tree. Three does came out of the cedars earlier that evening, but they were about 155 yards away and moving at a pretty good clip. Then this young deer came out, and when he finally moved out from behind a couple trees in front of me, he stopped quartering toward me and gave me a shot at about 75 yards. I don’t prefer to hunt with a muzzleloader, but the December season seems to be about the only time I get the opportunity to hunt deer. The shot rang and after a moment of blindness, the smoke cleared. I saw the deer bolt about 50 yards to my right. I thought I’d missed him, but as he approached a couple lone cedar trees in the open, he made a sharp, confused U-turn, and then crashed down into the dry creek bed to the north. I almost expected him to get up and continue running over the hill, or slip away down the dry bed. Trembling, I reloaded my gun. If he was there, I needed to give him time to die without the shock of my presence. But I couldn’t wait too long. It was getting dark, and I am not an experienced tracker. Finally, I worked up the nerve to walk up. I looked up and down the dry creek bed, but saw nothing. Then I walked toward the cedar trees, and there he was, lying at the edge of the dry bank. As I watched the last bit of life leave his eyes, I gave out a cathartic sob, the tension of the last few minutes releasing like the valve on a pressure cooker. Then I wiped my face, got myself together and called my friend and colleague at the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Cassidy, who was already making her way toward me. Cassidy made an offering of water as “last drink,” because there was no sage nearby to place into his mouth. She spoke words of grace and gratitude over the fallen animal — I’ve always admired my friend’s way with words. My bullet tore up his liver, which caused massive bleeding and a quick death. Cassidy and I dragged the deer to the truck in the dark. Back at the cabin, I seared his tenderloins in a hot pan and made a quick pan sauce of balsamic vinegar and jelly that I found in the kitchen. We enjoyed our celebratory deer camp meal with wild watercress soup, which I picked while scouting that morning.

Утверждают также, что хорваты приложили свою руку в дело основания Киева – из трех основателей – Кий, Щек и Хорив – как раз последний был хорватом. Византийские правители часто в древние времена приглашали на воинскую службу представителей других народов. Однажды повезло и хорватским воинам. Их призвали пожить на берегу Адриатического моря в начале седьмого века. В хорватских хрониках это событие нашло яркое отражение. Там говорится о пяти братьях и двух сестрах – предводителях племен, которые снялись с насиженных мест и переселились к морю. В результате оказалось, что выигрыш хорватов получился многократным – мало того, что они сменили климат на вполне приличный, но еще и попали в прогрессивную социальную среду. Охота и рыбалка в июле: что разрешено, на что действует запрет Пинская межрайонная инспекция охраны животного и растительного мира сообщает любителям охоты и рыбалки, какие правила действуют в угодьях Беларуси в июле. Охота: разрешена на кабана (добытые животные подлежат обязательной утилизации), волка, лисицу, шакала, ворону серую, сороку, енотовидную собаку (при любом законном нахождении в охотничьих угодьях в целях охоты); продолжается сезон охоты на самца косули (взрослые самцы, селекционные животные любого пола и возраста) и оленя пятнистого; с 9 июля открывается сезон охоты на бекаса с охотничьими собаками: легавыми, спаниелями, ретриверами. Рыбалка: в рыболовных угодьях установлен постоянный запрет на лов рыбы, миног, относящихся к видам, включенным в Красную книгу Республики Беларусь; разрешается ловить не более 5 кг рыбы в сутки; запрещена стоянка механических транспортных средств в границах прибрежных полос водных объектов до 30 м от береговой линии водного объекта, а также мойка транспортных и других технических средств в пределах водоохранных зон водных объектов.

New initiative targets Colorado mountain lion hunting What will the future of Colorado mountain lion hunting look like? A new petition filed with the Colorado Supreme Court is asking for a proposed ballot to be blocked that would request voters to approve a “statewide ban on hunting mountain lions, bobcats and Canada lynx.” Opponents say that the measure is “misleading” and multiple mistakes were made by the Colorado Secretary of State’s Title Board prior to getting the measure approved for the November 2024 ballot, according to The Colorado Sun. However, last week, a second initiative, Initiative 101, was filed that requests a limit (not ban) to hunting mountain lions, bobcats and lynx in an effort to curb trophy hunting. If approved, this limit would require “every carcass – excluding usable meat – to be turned over” to prevent “mounting, displaying or preserving wildcats as ‘souvenirs of their hunts.’” Initiative 101 does allow a two-week mountain lion and bobcat season at the end of December. Both measures ask for the complete ban of Canada lynx hunting; however, the lynx is not legal to hunt and retains federal protections under the Endangered Species Act. Initiative 101 “still honors the intent of the original initiative by calling out trophy hunting as a problem,” said Samantha Bruegger, the manager of the Cats Aren’t Trophies campaign. “Both initiatives really get at banning trophy hunting of mountain lions and bobcats.” This isn’t the first time mountain lion, bobcat and Canada lynx hunting has been in the crosshairs of anti-hunting groups. However, two years ago, a bill to ban this type of hunting didn’t even pass its first committee hearing, according to The Colorado Sun. Mountain lion hunting has been carefully regulated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) for decades. In fact, in order to obtain a license, hunters must complete a specific mountain lion education course. Every year, CPW adjusts harvest caps to maintain a healthy population with the 2023-24 hunting season cap set at 674 animals. Last year, hunters killed 386 mountain lions, according to The Colorado Sun. Further, each harvest must be reported within 48 hours with an additional five days to bring the carcass into a CPW office for inspection and an official seal that allows the hunter to keep the hide. “There are 350 certified biologists and scientists who are in their position at Colorado Parks and Wildlife to create science-based wildlife decisions that benefit wildlife, species and the people as well,” said Dan Gates, a hunting policy consultant who serves as executive director for Coloradans for Responsible Wildlife Management. “Most people agree that they don’t want the pool boy doing brain surgery just because he has an opinion.” Regardless, the plan, according to Bruegger, is to keep both ballot initiative active to gather enough signatures to put both on the 2024 ballot. The current mountain lion season runs April 1 to 30, and from December through March.

“Landlocks & Brookies” • The fam and I were out trying to find moose along the dirt roads when we stumbled upon an apparently unnamed pond on the Connecticut River, which is scarcely more than a humble brook that far up. First cast at the outflow of the small dam brought a brookie up to an elk hair caddis. Subsequent casts found brookies wildly striking away, with the occasional salmon parr in the mix. Wild brookies on the little stream that is the Connecticut River: it sounds so contradictory when you come from a place where the river is upwards of a quarter-mile across!

Grand Canyon Won't Seek Volunteers to Kill Bison This Fall Grand Canyon National Park has decided not to extend a pilot project this fall that used volunteers to kill bison to downsize the herd. By FELICIA FONSECA, Associated Press FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A bison herd that lives almost exclusively in the northern reaches of Grand Canyon National Park won't be targeted for lethal removal there this fall. The park used skilled volunteers selected through a highly competitive and controversial lottery last year to kill bison, part of a toolset to downsize the herd that's been trampling meadows and archaeological sites on the canyon's North Rim. Introducing the sound of gunfire and having people close to the bison was meant to nudge the massive animals back to the adjacent forest where they legally could be hunted. But the efforts had little effect. “They just kind of moved a bit from where the activity occurred, and sometimes they'd come back the next day,” said Grand Canyon wildfire program manager Greg Holm. New surveys also have shown the herd is closer to the goal of about 200, down from an estimated 500 to 800 animals when the park approved a plan to quickly cut the size of the herd. The park is now working with other agencies and groups on a long-term plan for managing the bison, an animal declared America's national mammal in 2016 and depicted on the National Park Service logo. Hunting over hundreds of years and a genetic bottleneck nearly left the animals that once numbered in the tens of millions extinct in the U.S. Federal wildlife authorities now support about 11,000 bison in about a dozen states, including the largest herd on public land at Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone, which spans 3,500 square miles in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, also is developing a new management plan for the roughly 5,500 bison there. It's working with Native American tribes, state agencies and other groups to find ways to reduce the number of bison sent to slaughter. Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota regularly rounds up bison using helicopters and corrals, then transfers some of the animals to tribes, other states and national parks. Without natural predators, bison herds can grow quickly and strain the resources, the park says. The Grand Canyon herd didn't always live within the park's boundaries, where they can be seen along the highway leading to the North Rim entrance. The bison are descendants of those brought to Arizona in the 1900s as part of a crossbreeding experiment with cattle. The animals increasingly recognized they could be hunted on the adjacent national forest and sought refuge in the national park. Hunting isn't allowed at national parks, but the agency has authority to kill animals that harm resources, using park staff or volunteers. Most of the bison at Grand Canyon have been removed by corralling them and transferring them to Native American tribes that have been trying to reestablish herds on their land. A controversial pilot project last fall sought skilled volunteers to shoot up to 12 of the animals. More than 45,000 people applied for the chance. Ultimately, 10 were picked, and they were able to kill four bison. Although the animals are massive, they're quick and agile and can hide among thick stands of trees. Grand Canyon officials say they won't repeat the program this fall, but it won't be excluded as a tool in the future. Another corralling effort is planned. The latest bison population estimate based on aerial surveys and tracking devices shows 216 bison on the expansive Kaibab Plateau, according to Grand Canyon National Park. Agencies that manage the land and wildlife in far northern Arizona and study the bison's movement are meeting in July to start talking about the long-term plan. Part of that discussion will include creating more gaps in the state-sanctioned bison hunting seasons outside Grand Canyon National Park to see if bison will move outside the boundaries, said Larry Phoenix, an Arizona Game and Fish Department regional supervisor. Meanwhile, the Game and Fish Department is seeking approval to improve fencing, cattle guards and water catchments to expand the range for another herd of bison in far northern Arizona. The state imported 15 bison yearlings from a privately owned nature reserve in Montana in late 2017 and said the herd now needs more room to grow. Phoenix is confident these bison won't follow the others into the Grand Canyon, largely because the animals don't know the other herd exists. Environmental groups are skeptical fences can keep them from straying and adding to the overall bison population in the region where they've been difficult and costly to keep in check.
