Four Hunters Fined $8,000 for Illegal Moose Hunt in Northern Ontario
Four men have been fined a total of $8,000 for illegally hunting a cow moose in northern Ontario. The incident occurred in 2023 and was investigated by Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. ⚖️ Charges and Penalties Carlos DeSousa of Toronto pleaded guilty to unlawfully hunting cow moose without a licence and received the largest fine of $5,000. Calvin Fors of Thunder Bay pleaded guilty to possessing illegally killed wildlife and was fined $1,500. Larry Moore, also of Thunder Bay, pleaded guilty to the same charge and was fined $1,000. Ben Nurmela of Thunder Bay pleaded guilty to unlawfully invalidating a tag on a killed animal and was fined $500. 🛡️ Enforcement and Public Reminder The MNRF issued a reminder to all hunters that compliance with licensing and tagging regulations is mandatory. Violations not only result in fines and suspensions but also damage the integrity of Ontario’s wildlife management system. Hunters are encouraged to double-check their tags, understand the boundaries of their designated WMUs, and report any suspicious activity to the TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667.
