Весенний сезон охоты довольно краток, потому требует тщательных предварительных сборов. Чем лучше вы подготовитесь – тем меньше неприятных сюрпризов может возникнуть во время мероприятия. Проверьте снаряжение! Начало сезона требует обязательной проверки оружия. Залог успешной охоты - чистка и ремонт ружья, если он необходим. Если есть возможность, для подстраховки лучше всего брать с собой два-три ружья. Откажет одно – выручит запасное. Чтобы не испортить начало весеннего охотничьего сезона, постарайтесь заранее запастись дробью. Не спохватывайтесь в последний день: нужной вам дроби или особо любимой марки патронов может просто не оказаться в магазине. От старых, неизвестно когда приобретённых патронов, хранящихся дома, тоже лучше отказаться. Заранее наточите нож. Если собираетесь провести в поисках дичи не один день, хорошо взять ещё и точило. Отдайте предпочтение охотничьему ножу с деревянной рукояткой: руки не будут мёрзнуть от холода или скользить в дождь. Одежда охотника: комфорт и удобство Подготовка к весенней охоте требует и особого внимания к одежде. Не поленитесь взять запасные куртки и брюки. Пусть один комплект будет тёплым, другой облегчённым. Запаситесь термобельём, шапкой, перчатками, тёплыми носками, дождевиком, футболкой, тельняшкой – все может оказаться кстати. Важно в весенний период позаботиться и о цвете одежды. Если, например, летняя охота на медведя на овсах или с собаками на кабана не требуют идеальной маскировки, то весной, когда ещё нет листвы, охотничий костюм должен максимально сливаться с окружающей середой. Что касается обуви, то удобнее всего весной в утеплённых резиновых сапогах. Если предстоит охота на болоте, запаситесь болотными сапогами. В долгих переходах суконные портянки утеплят ваши ноги и уберегут от мозолей. Не отказывайтесь и от берцовок. Также понадобятся: топор – незаменимая на охоте вещь; палатка двух- или трёхместная (если охотников много, лучше вместо одной десятиместной несколько небольших палаток); спальный мешок (удобен синтепоновый, с вкладышем, заменяющим пододеяльник и простыню); светодиодный фонарь с запасным комплектом батареек; радиостанция с дальностью связи до 10-30 км; аптечка (лучше – специально сформированная); рюкзак средних размеров (около 30 литров) и малый (15 литров); скрадок (удобнее тот, что со съёмной, на молнии, крышей).

Формально пойнтеры не ориентированы на подачу подбитой птицы, но на практике некоторые особи способны этим заниматься. For a moment, I considered leaving the collar in the truck, knowing my big running partner wouldn’t be running strong enough for me to fear him going over the edge of nowhere, one of the defining characteristics of our 12-year relationship. The March morning had dawned clear and cold, suggesting the snow cover in the mountains would present a crust that would support Winchester’s weight. Opportunities for the perfect conditions that once were a luxury had become a necessity for Winchester’s creaky old body. The anthracite orbs staring back at me as I scratched his ears still sparkled, and with some reservation, I nuzzled his ear and whispered, “Find the birds.” The command no longer produced the cannon-shot launch effect that would find him, in brief moments, hundreds of feet up the nearest mountain slope, the passion that would set his “papa’s” heart on fire and drive the day’s hunt. He somewhat gingerly climbed down, made a short jump to the snowbank next to the truck, and with a sort of shuffle, made his way toward the mountain that he knows well. The question, “When is it right to stop taking your old hunting dog, or other old outdoor active dog, to the field,” has been a source of anxiety for Christine and me for years. With so many hunting dogs in our family, that question has been a part of our lives for a long time. It hasn’t gotten easier. It isn’t debatable when they clearly do not want to go. The gun dogs I’ve had and been around for most of my life will key on something that tells them it’s time to go hunting. Maybe it’s pulling the shotgun out of the gun safe or putting on an article of clothing the dog associates with hunting. Gunner, one of our beloved chocolate Labrador retrievers who had to leave early, would get excited by a shotgun or an old upland vest I wore for grouse hunting. Gunner loved grouse hunting, and his level of excitement reflected that when I donned that old vest. Winchester never needed anything but for me to think that we were going. That may sound ridiculous, but it is true and a characteristic shared by two of his offspring, Hugo and Boss. If Christine and I talk about taking either of them, out of their earshot, they get amped up the next time we see them. Jack, another chocolate Lab, injured himself early in life and he couldn’t negotiate the rigors of the hunting dog life without significant pain, so we restricted his activities to “puppy walks” his entire life. Even when he became severely crippled and virtually unable to leave the house, he would whine and cry to go when he knew what was up. Saying no for their own good in such cases always makes me wonder. It seems safe to say most folks don’t like to be told no, especially if it involves an activity they love. It’s human nature, I suppose. Perhaps a lesser percent will grudgingly accept it as reasonable given the circumstances. And there are those who won’t, and are willing to injure themselves, or their life to pursue their passion. I have always fallen in the latter category. Following doctor’s orders are among the most difficult things for me to do if the order restricts my physical activity. It might set back your recovery, they will say. Yeah, even so. In truth, who could blame Christine if she locked me and Winchester in the house the next time we refused to follow orders. But, that’s why it is so hard to tell a dog, whose only means of communication evidences overwhelming joy at the prospect of going with you, no. It’s been a bit of a dance with Winchester for the past two seasons, and his 12th birthday loomed near. Parker, the mother of all of our setter pups, and Winchester’s mate, who went from seeming good health to lost to us in just a few brief days, helps me make these decisions. The year she became suddenly ill came along when the pups were just starting to get their legs under them. Thus, we were hunting them and Winchester as much as possible. Parker had a good nose and could find birds, but she never hunted well when there were other dogs. So, that season she hadn’t been going. One morning she came to me and sat down at my feet, staring at me. It about broke my heart — she was saying she wanted to go. So, off we went, just the two of us, and we had a wonderful day of grouse hunting. She found birds, and she strutted back into the house when we got home like the princess she was. Two weeks later, we held her in our arms as she left us. Had I not taken her that day, it would have haunted me forever. You never know. That’s why my thoughts had briefly considered no collar and no gun, when Winchester and I started our day in March. For Winchester, finding birds completed him. He never cared if we missed every shot, as long as he could find them, he was happy. I didn’t want to shoot a bird and take the chance of him having to run down a wounded bird, which could set him back and cause him pain for days. We spent half a day covering country that would have taken him maybe 30 minutes only a few years ago. He did find birds, and when he got on their scent, his helicopter tail, just before he locked on point, told me all I needed to know about the decision I made.

SPEARFISHING IN TUSCANY AT THE "ISOLA DEL GIGLIO" WITH JACOPO AND TIZIANA What is your spearfishing philosophy? We both love speafishing the big ones in open waters. We both live this passion as a real lifestyle rather than as a sport, we don’t like to call it that way, and we don’t like the competition environment either as it tends to keep the challenge spirit among men. The real essence of this activity instead is diving in to the water to be part of something bigger. Where are your usual fishing spots? We live in Umbria away from the sea, only 110km away is the Adriatic sea but the fishes we like to spear cannot be found in that portion of sea so we need to face a week-end out to get to the gorgeous Giglio island in Tuscany. There we have a small house on rent, a small dinghy that we share with another friend and all the equipment we need to catch big snappers. Which techniques do you prefer? We are used to spear fish with crawling and waiting technique either in shallow or deep waters. What kind of sea bottoms can we find around that Island? Mostly granitic ones ranging from falls of rocks going deeper than 30mt to enormous rocks lying on the sand or some shoals off the coasts. You can also find some seaweed prairies in which you can see red snappers schools or some big brown groupers. Is the water often clear or there is usually a low visibility? It depends on the period f the year, it is generally clear but in spring it might get to “only” 3-4mt if there is abundant rain. Then during the summer the visibility improves until it gets to 30mt in autumn. After the first winter disturbances it worsen again. Are there any currents or other things limiting the practice of this activity? Very often there are strong currents and it is wise to properly evaluate their intensity to dive safely. However the most important aspect is the wind: if a strong gregale or sirocco blows there is no way to leave the port with the dinghy but because of the varied morphology of the coast it is always easy to find a place to enter into the water by feet. What kind of weather should we expert there and what season is best to spearfish? Here you can find a Mediterranean weather, even if lately Seasons have changed irregularly. Generally from June to October you can fish wearing a 5mm wetsuit as the surface water temperature ranges from 16-17 to 24 degrees; This is also the best period to find all the kinds of fishes living in our sea. What kind of preys are more common over there? The most coveted one is certainly the red snapper but you can also find groupers, amberjacks and barracudas beyond white breams and corbs, you can find instead more rarely gilthead breams and sea basses. What habits do they have? According to the season, the water temp and many other factors our common preys can be find at different depths. The rocky coast slopes rapidly down almost all around the island so many fishes find their own shelter very deep or in inaccessible places. Generally white breams, mullets and some barracuda can be found no deeper than 8-10mt instead for all the others it is requested to dive deeper to at least 15-18mt. In regards to the common dentex they usually live beyond 20mt and you need a perfect technique to catch them. The best period to fish them is spring and autumn when the sun is not too high on the horizon. They can be found also in the summer but the massive traffic on the surface and the great thermal excursion in the water influence their behaviour. We under stand you are not scared of depth, how deep do you spearfish? Jacopo:depth is a matter that must be faced gradually, with the help o fan expert. After some years of practice and training I can dive beyond 30mt, however my catches are mostly made between 18 and 26mt. Tell us about the shoals around the Island The pignocchi shoal togheter with the isolotti delle scole are the easier spots to reach even whithout a dinghy. We often go over there and it is not rare finding amberjacks and common dentex. In both places it is also easy to find strong currents, moreover the bottom slopes rapidly to depth so you’d better avoid going there alone. Another great spot to meet the big ones is the shoal called la Secca della Croce that is 600mt off the coast and the top of it is at 7mt depth (the 7 mt point is really small). To reach such a place you need a boat and you also need to know the area in order to properly anchor. Because of the depth and the currents it is a very challenging spot but if you know the place you can dive and try catching dentex, amberjacks and barracudas within 15mt. On the west coast we can find a large bay called Cala del corvo where there is a shoal from which start several rocky crests at different depths. The scoglio di Pietrabona is also very interesting. On the open sea side it slopes to the bottom with a rocky “tongue” and after it has reached a canal it gives birth a little shoal where there is a strong current and a sedentary school of white breams. Are there any spearfishing restrictions in your area? Sure as in the rest of Italy you can catch up to 5Kg of fishes or a fish bigger than that and molluscs like octopuses and cuttlefishes instead shellfishes are forbidden. You can take also the sea urchins that are really good to season the pasta. Would you suggest anything to anybody wishing to spear in you area? Yes, do not go on your own but with someone that already knows the area.

Вот лишь некоторые из норм неписаного охотничьего кодекса: Добытая из-под чужой собаки дичь принадлежит хозяину собаки, который возвращает стрелявшему патроны. Первым стреляет тот, с кем рядом поднялась дичь, после его выстрела стреляют остальные. Если по дичи стреляло несколько охотников без явных попаданий, а дичь, пробежав или пролетев какое-то расстояние, падает, она принадлежит тому, кто стрелял последним. Крупная дичь считается добычей того, кто окончательно остановил зверя. Стрелку, добывшему на коллективной охоте крупного зверя, принадлежат его голова и субпродукты (сердце, печень, легкие и др.), остальное делится на всех участников. Если животное добыто в чужом секторе, оно присуждается тому, кто в этом секторе стрелял. Зверь лег посредине секторов – кто нанес ему смертельную рану, тот и победитель. Обязательно следует добрать подранка. Недопустимо стрелять зайца на лежке, а птицу – не в полете. Нельзя занимать чужие скрадки, лабазы, шалаши. Нельзя стрелять дичь там, где нет возможности её найти и подобрать. При охоте вдвоем с лодки более меткий всегда будет с добычей, но воспитанный охотник сложит все в одну кучу и поделит ее пополам. Постараюсь быть максимально честным и объективным, без прикрас. Карабин Merkel SR1 в калибре 30-06: Плюсы: Точность: Вот здесь Merkel SR1 действительно хорош. Из коробки показывает достойную кучность, а после небольшой пристрелки и подбора патрона можно добиться очень уверенных результатов. На 100 метров стабильно укладываюсь в минуту угла (MOA), а это для полуавтомата очень неплохо. Надежность: За несколько лет эксплуатации ни разу не подвел. Механика работает четко, без задержек и клинов, даже в сложных погодных условиях. Конечно, требует регулярной чистки и смазки, но это справедливо для любого оружия. Эргономика: Ложа удобная, вкладка комфортная, все органы управления расположены логично и интуитивно понятно. Быстро привыкаешь и можешь оперировать карабином практически вслепую. Универсальность калибра: 30-06 – это действительно универсальный калибр для охоты в России. Australia is being ravaged by the worst wildfires seen in decades, with large swaths of the country devastated since the fire season began in late July. At least 28 people have died nationwide, and in the state of New South Wales (NSW) alone, more than 3,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged. State and federal authorities are struggling to contain the massive blazes, even with firefighting assistance from other countries, including the United States. All this has been exacerbated by persistent heat and drought, and many point to climate change as a factor making natural disasters go from bad to worse. Where are the fires? There have been fires in every Australian state, but New South Wales has been hardest hit. Blazes have torn through bushland, wooded areas, and national parks like the Blue Mountains. Some of Australia's largest cities have also been affected, including Melbourne and Sydney -- where fires have damaged homes in the outer suburbs and thick plumes of smoke have blanketed the urban center. Earlier in December, the smoke was so bad in Sydney that air quality measured 11 times the "hazardous" level. The fires range in area from small blazes -- isolated buildings or part of a neighborhood -- to massive infernos that occupy entire hectares of land. Some start and are contained in a matter of days, but the biggest blazes have been burning for months. In NSW alone, more than 100 fires are still burning. What is causing the fires? Each year there is a fire season during the Australian summer, with hot, dry weather making it easy for blazes to start and spread. Natural causes are to blame most of the time, like lightning strikes in drought-affected forests. Dry lightning was responsible for starting a number of fires in Victoria's East Gippsland region in late December, which then traveled more than 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) in just five hours, according to state agency Victoria Emergency. Humans can also be to blame. NSW police have charged at least 24 people with deliberately starting bushfires, and have taken legal action against 183 people for fire-related offenses since November, according to a police statement. Why are the fires so bad? Fire season in Australia is always dangerous -- the 2009 Black Saturday fires killed 173 people in Victoria, making it the deadliest bushfire disaster on record. But conditions have been unusually severe this year, fanning the flames and making firefighting conditions particularly difficult. Australia is experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades -- the country's Bureau of Meteorology said in December that last spring was the driest on record. Meanwhile, a heatwave in December broke the record for highest nationwide average temperature, with some places sweltering under temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius (about 113-120 degrees Fahrenheit). Strong winds have also made the fires and smoke spread more rapidly, and have led to fatalities -- a 28-year-old volunteer firefighter died in NSW in December after his truck rolled over in high winds. Experts say climate change has worsened the scope and impact of natural disasters like fires and floods -- weather conditions are growing more extreme, and for years, the fires have been starting earlier in the season and spreading with greater intensity. Several high-ranking emergency service officials, including the former commissioner of the NSW Fire and Rescue Department, sent letters to Prime Minister Scott Morrison in 2019 warning of the impact of the climate crisis on Australia. In response, Morrison emphasized a commitment to reduce carbon emissions -- but also said he would stick to "sensible" policies, and that there wasn't "a single policy, whether it be climate or otherwise," that can completely protect against the fires.

I decided to give the Naivis Gen 2+ night vision scope a try, hoping it would give me an edge during those low-light hunts. I paired it with the Naivis 850nm IR illuminator, which I'll touch on later. Here's my honest take: Naivis Gen 2+ The Good: Decent Image Quality (For Gen 2+): Let's be clear, it's not Gen 3 clarity, but for the price point and being a Gen 2+, the image is surprisingly good. It definitely beats trying to hunt with binos and a prayer. Sturdy Build: The scope feels solid. It's been bumped around in my pack, endured some light rain, and still holds zero. That's crucial when you're out in the bush. Adjustable Brightness: The ability to adjust the screen brightness is a game-changer. You can dial it down to avoid blinding yourself when it's really dark, and crank it up when there's a bit more ambient light. This helps maintain your natural night vision. The Naivis 850nm IR Illuminator: This little thing is a beast. It significantly extends the range and clarity of the scope. In total darkness, it turns night into day. Just be mindful of its range – you don't want to spook game by blasting them with too much light. Naivis Gen 2+ The Not-So-Good: It is Still Gen 2+: Don't expect miracles. In truly pitch-black conditions, you're going to need the IR illuminator. And even with the illuminator, the image isn't crystal clear. There's still some grain and distortion. Battery Life: The battery life is acceptable, but not amazing. I got about 3-4 hours of continuous use with the IR illuminator on. Make sure you bring extra batteries. Weight: It adds noticeable weight to your rifle. After a long trek, you'll feel it. Be prepared for that. Learning Curve: There's a bit of a learning curve to using night vision effectively. It takes practice to get used to the image quality and how to best use the IR illuminator. Don't expect to be a pro on your first hunt. Price: Its not cheap, so make sure its what you are expecting. Overall: The Naivis Gen 2+ night vision scope is a solid piece of gear for the price. It's not perfect, but it offers a significant advantage for night hunting in areas where it's legal. The key is to understand its limitations and use it wisely. With practice and patience, it can definitely help you put more game on the table. I would recommend to hunters looking to get into night hunting without breaking the bank. Регионом происхождения акита-ину считают префектуру Акита на острове Хонсю. Матаги-ину и ее предки служили людям незаменимыми помощниками в охоте, позволяя добывать даже очень крупных или ловких зверей: японских макак, медведей, кабанов. Взрослая акита-ину Взрослая акита-ину В XII-XIII веках в Японии возникло новое популярное развлечение – собачьи бои. Оно стало жестоким отбором для этих собак, оставляя только самых сильных, злых и выносливых. В XIX веке по стране прокатилась волна индустриализации, многие жители переезжали, росло количество преступлений. Из-за этого матаги-ину были переучены для охраны имущества. В то же время из Европы в Японию привезли бульмастифов и мастифов, догов, возрождая традицию собачьих боев. Все чаще акиту скрещивали с этими собаками, чтобы получить более агрессивных и крупных псов. Это вызвало беспокойство японских собаководов, ведь порода начала терять свои черты, поэтому в 1931 году акита-ину на государственном уровне были переведены в статус памятника природы. Заводчики активно занялись возрождением породы, отбирая только лучших ее представителей для разведения. В 1934 году был введен первый официальный стандарт, но со временем его пришлось скорректировать.
