One of the amazing things about hunting in Spain is the wide variety of game that we have, turning into amazing opportunities once our hunters are done with their main quest. After getting two magnificent Spanish Ibex, Cavan decided to go for a Fallow Deer, and was able to harvest this once in a lifetime stag! Absolutely stunning!

How Do You Start Squirrel Hunting? There are no large requirements that are needed to start hunting squirrels. If you have a strong desire to capture, you may choose the small game rodent as a starting point. They are mainly the best to hunt because they are available in every tree crotch and almost every season, especially the winter. Most states require you to have a license if you want to hunt the rodents legally. The grant is for the small game residents, and squirrels qualify as part of them. You can kill them using an air rifle, shotgun, or shot rifle. To begin your hunting experience, you can make your way to the trees or bushes in the mid-mornings or the late afternoon. Wait for the squirrels, and you will have your first kill within minutes Squirrel Hunting Tips The little creatures may be abundant, but hunting them is not an easy task as it seems. Some essential tips that will ensure your outdoor experience is successfully are explained below: 1. Know where to hunt You have to choose a location that has plenty of squirrels to hunt. You can identify the trees that host the squirrels or where they feed. These trees include the mulberry or the oaks trees or large trees that have trunks in them. They are mostly active in the midmorning or the late afternoons. 2. Movement Squirrels are very fast to hide whenever they detect any movement. They usually emerge after hearing some silence; thus, it is crucial to time your movement when hunting them. The trick is sitting still for about 10 to 20 minutes when you identify the right spot. Being particularly keen when observing is the key to identify a squirrel. You can move slowly and quietly if you don’t spot a squirrel to another location. 3. Squirrel calling There are different types of calls that attract squirrels. The most common one is the “rock call. The trick is to produce a sound similar to their chewing. You perform it by rolling two small pebbles in your palms. With some luck, the method may get the squirrels out of hiding. 4. Have the right hunting dog A good hunting dog will track the squirrels by sight or by scent. When the dog identifies the hiding spot, it lets out small barks to the hunter. They also make the squirrels move around tree trunks, increasing the chance of shooting one. The dogs can also catch a wounded squirrel, and it can enter areas where entry is limited to you. 5. Know the squirrels There are different types of squirrels, including Red and Gray squirrels. Gray squirrels are found on the ground while red is tree squirrels. The red is somehow easy to shoot compared to the Gray one.

Hunting for a Hare with a Dog: A Day in the Field with ROS the Spaniel Today, my red spaniel ROS showed exceptional skill in tracking a wounded hare. He picked up the scent of the injured animal, chased it down with determination, and finished the job with a clear voice. The emotions I’m feeling right now are overwhelming - not because of the hunt itself, but because of the dog’s incredible work. Thanks to ROS, there’s no wounded animal left suffering in the field. I’m sure many hunters will understand this feeling. While there are breeds that might perform this task even more spectacularly, ROS is my dog, and this was only his second time hunting hare. It’s all part of his training, and I’m proud to share how it went. Here’s how it unfolded: We entered a thicket and emerged into a small clearing. I spotted a hare running along the edge of the field, clearly flushed out by hunters who had gone further ahead. I took a couple of shots through the tall grass, but ROS didn’t see the hare. We moved to check the area, and as we did, we heard a few more shots in the distance. Another hunter called out, signaling that there might be a wounded animal nearby. We followed the trail and soon found traces of blood. ROS picked up the scent and started moving-first a bit chaotically, but then he steadied himself and picked up speed. My friends began visually searching for tracks, but I decided to trust the dog. After all, this was his chance to prove his skills and validate his blood-tracking diploma! ROS led us out into the open field, checked the area, and then doubled back, confidently following the edge of the field. I stayed close behind. Suddenly, he veered sharply to the right, heading into a low-lying area filled with reeds and dense bushes - a spot I couldn’t navigate. That’s when I heard ROS’s voice for the first time. He had found the hare and was giving chase. A few seconds of barking, followed by the sounds of a struggle and the hare’s desperate cries as it tried to fend off its relentless pursuer. By the time I reached the scene, it was all over. But for me, the emotions were just beginning. This hunt wasn’t about the trophy - it was about the partnership between hunter and dog, the trust we place in our four-legged companions, and the satisfaction of knowing that no animal was left to suffer. ROS proved himself today, and I couldn’t be prouder. Hunting with a dog like him is a reminder of why we do what we do - it’s not just about the chase, but about the bond, the skill, and the respect for nature. Here’s to many more days in the field with ROS, my loyal and talented spaniel. 🐾

Guide TrackIR 50mm thermal monocular review The Guide TrackIR 50mm thermal monocular has left a lasting impression on me since my first use. As an outdoor enthusiast and a tech aficionado, I find its performance impressive for both recreational and professional applications. The clarity of the thermal imaging is remarkable, providing sharp visuals even in complete darkness or challenging weather conditions. The ergonomic design Guide TrackIR is another plus; it fits comfortably in the hand, making prolonged use a non-issue. The intuitive controls allow for seamless adjustments, meaning you can focus on your surroundings rather than fumbling with the device. The 50mm lens captures a wide field of view without compromising on detail, which is crucial for identifying subjects from a distance. One notable feature is its ability to detect body heat, which has proven invaluable for wildlife observation and security surveillance. The battery life Guide TrackIR is also commendable, lasting several hours on a single charge, which is crucial during extended outings.

Review of KHAN ARMS MATRIX CAMO 12/76 Shotgun (Barrel Length: 760mm) As an avid shotgun enthusiast, I recently had the chance to try out the KHAN ARMS MATRIX CAMO 12/76. This shotgun has garnered attention due to its unique features and stylish design, so I was eager to put it through its paces. Here’s a detailed review highlighting both the pros and the cons of this firearm. Pros: Aesthetics and Camouflage Design: The MATRIX CAMO feature is visually striking. The camouflage pattern is not only stylish but also functional for hunting purposes, allowing for effective concealment in various outdoor environments. It certainly stands out from more traditional shotgun designs. Build Quality: The shotgun feels robust and well-constructed. The materials used seem durable, suggesting that this firearm can withstand the rigors of regular use. The polymer stock offers a good grip, making it comfortable to handle. Shooting Performance: With a barrel length of 760mm, the KHAN ARMS shotgun strikes a balance between maneuverability and accuracy. The recoil is manageable, making it suitable for both novice and experienced shooters. I found it to be quite effective for both clay pigeon shooting and small game hunting. Versatile Choke Options: The shotgun comes with interchangeable chokes, allowing shooters to customize their shooting experience based on their preferences and the type of game they are pursuing. The ease of swapping chokes is a bonus for versatility. Value for Money: In comparison to other shotguns in its category, the KHAN ARMS MATRIX CAMO offers great value. It provides solid performance without breaking the bank, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. Cons: Weight: While the build quality is impressive, the shotgun is on the heavier side. After extended use, I felt some fatigue in my arms and shoulders. This may be a consideration for those who plan to carry it around for long durations. Trigger Pull: The trigger action could use some improvement. While it’s not a dealbreaker, the pull felt a bit heavier than I would prefer, which might affect accuracy for more discerning shooters. A lighter, crisper trigger could greatly enhance the overall shooting experience. Finish Durability: Although the camo finish looks great initially, I noticed that it can wear off in high-friction areas after consistent use. Regular maintenance and care are required to keep it looking its best and to prevent scratches. Limited Availability: Depending on your region, finding replacement parts or accessories specifically for this model might be a challenge. It may take extra effort to source compatible items, which is something to keep in mind for long-term ownership. Conclusion: Overall, the KHAN ARMS MATRIX CAMO 12/76 is a solid shotgun that delivers substantial performance for its price. While it does have its drawbacks, especially regarding weight and trigger pull, its advantages such as the stunning design… #KhanArms #12

The Champawat tigress is a man-eating animal that killed 436 people! Photo: 1911 Nepal, Jim Corbett. In the early 1900s, the Nepalese region close to the Himalayas was terrorized by the most famous and bloodthirsty man-eating animal. Men, women, and children disappeared into the jungle. The attacks were so frequent and violent that the locals started talking about demons and punishments from the gods. But the Bengal tigress was the culprit! Champawat tigress was forced to hunt humans, but I'll tell you about that later. After people found out that people were disappearing because of the tigress. People started hunting for her, all attempts were in vain. The number of people killed has reached 200! I had to turn to the army. Hundreds of people with guns combed the region in search of her. Fleeing from them, the Champawat Tigress crossed the border with India and stopped in the Kumaon region. Settled in the forests of India, Champawat Tigress went back to her old ways. People began to disappear in the Kumaon area. The tigress became bolder: She began to hunt people in broad daylight and prowl near settlements. Life in the region has been paralyzed. When people heard the roar of a tiger coming from the forest, they stopped leaving their homes and going to work. It's been like this for 4 years! Prizes were awarded for the capture of Champawat Tigress, hunters and even teams of Gurkhas (volunteer army) were sent from the garrison to Almora. Despite this, the number of victims was growing... Desperate, the commissariat turned to Jim Corbett. The famous ogre hunter. But Corbett agreed on 2 conditions: 1)To recall the Gurkhas, so as not to be accidentally shot. 2)Remove the barrier. He didn't want to be known as a money hunter. His terms were accepted immediately. The year is 1907. A new victim. The animal grabbed a 16-year-old girl who was collecting firewood. Following the trail of her blood and bone fragments, the hunter tracked down the tigress. He shot her and killed her. The terror of Kumaon is finally killed. After the tigress was shot, Corbett examined her body. He discovered that the upper and lower canines on the right side of the mouth were broken: the upper one in half, the lower one to the base. It turned out that the cause of the fracture of her teeth was a bullet. In Nepal, she was shot by a hunter, and the bullet broke her fangs. This injury, according to Corbett, prevented her from hunting her natural prey and forced her to attack people. The tigress had to attack people to survive. After almost a decade, 436 confirmed and countless unreported deaths, the terror has finally come to an end...

The 5 Guns Every Outdoorsman Needs It never hurts to have a few extra firearms, but if you’re a hunter and limited to just five, these are the ones you really can’t live without If you’re like me, you’d own 20 or more rifles, shotguns, and handguns, however many you could afford. But truth is, to have a blast shooting targets and hunting every species of bird and animal across America, you really only need five firearms. And those are the ones we’re talking about here. In this discussion, we’ll focus on the generic qualities and some specs of the five categories of guns. When you’re ready to buy, do your research on Google and at your local gun shop to find the brands and models that match your style and fit your budget. A .22 Rifle Every man, woman, and child on Earth needs a good old .22 rifle. Well, so long as they’re properly trained in firearms handling and safety. Whether for plinking on the Back 40 or potting a mess of squirrels in October, a .22 rifle is the gun most of us learn on. It’s the first gun you need to get into your kid’s hands as soon as he or she is ready to join our shooting fraternity. Relatively quiet to shoot and with no recoil, a rimfire rifle is the perfect tool for young or new shooters. For those of you who have been hunting awhile, think of a .22 as the perfect understudy for your deer rifle. You can go to the range several times a year and comfortably shoot a scoped .22 rifle all day long to fine-tune your sight picture, breathing, alignment, and trigger control. There’s no better practice for the upcoming whitetail season. (Don't Miss: Has the .30-30 Really Killed the Most Deer?) The .22 LR has long been the most popular cartridge in America, and today’s rimfire rifles are of the best quality yet. No matter your preference or budget, there’s a sweeting-shooting bolt-action or autoloader for you. Which one? I like a bolt because it simulates my deer rifles, but I’ve got to admit that a .22 autoloader with a capacity of 10 or more cartridges is a lot more fun to shoot. A Deer Rifle I could write for days about deer rifles, but here I’ll simplify things: Any centerfire rifle that shoots a 140- to a 180-grain bullet accurately out to 250-300 yards is a good choice for hunting any species of deer anywhere in North America. Five calibers you should consider: .270, .308, 7mm-08, .30-06, and 7mm Rem. Mag. There are many more adequate cartridges out there and new rounds popping up every so often, but go with one of the aforementioned and proven five, and you’ll be happy. I have three favorites: .270 Winchester: As hunting cartridges go, the .270 is a plenty accurate round with manageable recoil. The less that a rifle “kicks,” the better people shoot and hunt with it, no question. While the perfect caliber for whitetails, the .270 with a 140-grain bullet is fine if you get a hankering to go West for mule deer. 7mm-08 Remington: Overlooked by too many hunters, this round is accurate, easy to shoot, and has minimal recoil, making it an especially good choice for young hunters. I use mine to hunt Texas whitetails every year. .30-06 Springfield: If you want more power and can handle more recoil, you can’t go wrong with the time-proven .30-06. If you choose a bolt-action that fits you well and feels comfortable and snug on your shoulder and cheek, the recoil of an ’06 actually isn’t that bad. With good 180-grain bullets, you can hunt every hoofed mammal in North America, including elk and moose, with a .30-06. (Don't Miss: 5 Tips for Rifle Shooting Accuracy) Regardless, definitely go with a bolt-action. While some rifles will shoot better than others right out of the box, any new bolt gun you purchase will be more than accurate enough for deer hunting. All you really need is a rifle/scope/ammo combo that will shoot a 3-shot group that measures 2 inches or less at 100 yards. That’s a bar easy to meet, and most modern rifles with good scopes shoot better. Final thoughts: Barrels on today’s hunting rifles are typically 22 or 24 inches; either is fine. Lightweight synthetic stocks are tough, look OK, and shed rain. Many rifles come from the factory with trigger pulls of 5 pounds or more. You will shoot better with a crisp-breaking, 3 ½- to 4-pound trigger. Have a qualified gunsmith measure the trigger and lighten the pull if necessary. (Is it Safe to Hunt with Old Ammo?) A Bird Gun “Bird Gun” is our Southern term for a wood-stocked, lightweight, sweet-handling 12- or 20-gauge shotgun that is perfect for breaking clay pigeons and shooting a limit of quail, doves, or pheasants. We’re talking semi-auto or over/under with a 24- to 26-inch barrel(s) fitted with removable choke tubes. Skeet, Improved Cylinder, and Modified are the top tubes you’ll need and use. Many guns have 3-inch chambers, but you’ll be shooting mostly 2 ¾-inch shells from this gun (usually with No. 6, 7 ½, 8 or 9 shot). (Killer Buy Alert: Men's Realtree Turkey Flag Short Sleeve Gray Shirt) A bird gun is the cream of the crop of this collection, and it will run you $1,000 to $2,000 or a bit more. Shop around and check out the used gun rack at your local gun shop. Think of it as a lifelong investment; a gun you can pass along to one of your kids. But you need a fine shotgun to get the most enjoyment out of your wing-shooting, be it for clay pigeons or live feathers. If you’ll shoot mostly skeet and clays, I’d recommend a 20-gauge. If you’ll hunt a lot of doves, grouse, and definitely pheasants, I’d go with a 12. You could screw a Full Choke tube into your bird gun and use it to kill a turkey or a limit of mallards — I’ve done that a bunch of times — but there is a better choice of gun for that. A Magnum Shotgun While not a gun you’ll shoot every month, you need a heavy-duty 12-gauge magnum in your safe. It’s the ticket for turkey hunting in the spring, and a workhorse for waterfowling in fall and winter. It should be a pump or semi-auto, chambered for 3- and 3 ½-inch shotshells, with synthetic stock and cloaked in Realtree camo. If you’ll hunt mostly waterfowl, go with a 26- or 28-inch barrel. While that same barrel will work fine for gobblers, many of today’s specialty turkey guns have 21- or 22-inch barrels, which are easier to carry and maneuver in the woods. A variety of choke tubes for either steel or turkey loads are available in any gun you choose. (Don't Miss: The Benelli Super Black Eagle: One of History's Great Duck Guns) An All-Purpose Handgun I’ve been shooting a lot of handguns lately, mostly for the fun of it, but also because I want to be proficient with a pistol and ready to protect my family and property. For ease of use and dependability, you can’t beat a double-action revolver. Load up, aim at the target and pull the trigger five or six times until the gun is empty. There are snub-nosed revolvers up to large-frame magnum revolvers, but for most, a medium-frame gun with a 4- to 6-inch barrel chambered in .357 Magnum (from which you can also shoot .38 Special, but not vice versa) is about right. (Don't Miss: 5 Things to Know About Muzzleloader Accuracy) I started out with revolvers and still use them, but these days I do most of my shooting with a semiauto handgun. A semi-auto in 9mm, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP (three of the most common calibers) holds more ammunition than a .357 revolver, is faster to reload, and typically recoils less. Plus, most of them have better triggers and are easier for new users to shoot. Personally, I shoot a full-size .45 ACP double-stack that measures 7½ from the rear of the slide to the muzzle. My wife shoots a smaller, lighter version of the same gun in 9mm. For a day at the range, running 10- to 13-round magazines through semi-auto handgun is about as much fun as it gets. A semiauto pistol does require more thorough and frequent cleanings than a revolver, but I look at that as a good thing. It makes you learn your weapon — how to dissemble it, clean it, and reassemble it after every shooting session. That builds confidence, and makes you safer, too. Summary Once you’ve amassed these five firearms, you have the tools needed to hunt just about any critter that walks or flies in North America. You’re ready to plink paper or metal, and powder clays. Have peace of mind, because you’re set for both personal protection and fun. Now go out and have fun, shoot straight, and be safe.

CZ Debuts 600 Series: A Firsthand View If Ford opted to replace the F150 with some new line of pickups, the new design better fill the category. The new series also better be loaded with innovations that aficionados of the brand really do want and need. It also should be close enough to the original beloved DNA of the brand that customers will be excited about, but still comfortable with, the change. 600 Alpha So when CZ said it developed a new 600 series of bolt-action rifles—guns that will reportedly replace the CZ 527 and CZ 557—and asked us to come to the Czech Republic to see them, we were excited about the prospect. We were hopeful they had designed a rifle that would be a smart replacement for established models. We were also hoping this new 600 series would send competitors scrambling for their SolidWorks programs to see how they could adjust to a new design in a very mature firearm category. Sling Loops on the 600 Lux 600 Lux In short, CZ didn’t disappoint. We’ll get you a more-detailed review when they ship us some rifles to fully test. In the meantime, here are the basic details. Trigger on 600 Alpha 600 Alpha After a factory tour, I did get to shoot all of these rifles on a range. I then took an Alpha model hunting for mouflon in the beautiful rolling hills of the Czech Republic. It performed flawlessly on the range and in the field. 600 Lux Bolt Knob 600 Lux This is a very modular rifle design. The 600 series includes models for hunting, competition and more. They are already available in a wide range of popular calibers; in fact, kits will be available soon to allow you to convert a CZ 600 model to other calibers. (Most people will be able to change calibers without a gunsmith.) Changing barrels on this rifle is easy. 600 Lux Sighting System 600 Lux The CZ 600 series of rifles have suggested retail prices between $749 and $1,199. For more info go to CZ-USA.com. CZ 600 Innovations: The CZ 600 series features a new, patented trigger mechanism. A single-stage trigger comes as standard and allows the user to set four levels of trigger pull weight. The Trail model comes with a double-stage trigger with four levels of pull weight. Changing the weight just requires a simple tool. There is a positive stop at each weight. This series features a new, patented receiver. Changing between calibers (within a certain range predicated on the receiver size) just takes a few This series combines controlled-round feed and push-feed systems. Basically, it’s controlled-round feed, but it uses a short extractor. This series has a patented, ergonomic safety that allows for silent operation. It is located on top of the grip and behind the bolt. You push it down to disengage. Its magazine can function as a normal removable magazine or fixed magazine. It locks in with a click. Due to a three-lug or six-lug lockup of the bolt, the bolt handle rotates just 60 degrees. The rifles come with accuracy guarantees. The Alpha, Lux and Ergo models are guaranteed to shoot sub-MOA for three-shot groups at 100 meters. The Range model is guaranteed to shoot sub-0.75 MOA for five-shot groups at 100 meters. The Trail version is guaranteed to shoot 2 MOA at 100 meters. Available calibers in the CZ 600 series: CZ 600 Alpha: .223 Remington, 7.62x39mm, 224 Valkyrie, .308 Winchester, 6 mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .30-06 Springfield, .300 Winchester Magnum, 8x57 IS CZ 600 Lux: .223 Rem., .308 Win., 8x57 IS, .30-06 Springfield, .300 Win. Mag. CZ 600 Ergo: .223 Rem., .308 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor, .30-06 Springfield, .300 Win. Mag., 8x57 IS CZ 600 Range: .308 Win., 6 mm Creedmoor CZ 600 Trail: .223 Rem., 7.62×39mm CZ 600 Alpha CZ 600 Alpha All of the barrels in the 600 series are cold hammer forged using CZ technology. The CZ 600 Alpha comes with a fiber-reinforced polymer stock and semi-heavy barrel. Optics can be mounted on the Picatinny rail integrated its new aluminum receiver. CZ 600 Lux CZ 600 Lux This version has a traditional, European-style wood stock. It has fiber optic front and rear sights. Its steel receiver comes with a Remington 700-type interface for mounting optics. CZ 600 Range CZ 600 Range The Range is designed for precision target sports. It has a heavy barrel and an original CZ designed laminated stock. The stock features a tool-free, height adjustable comb. This model comes with a “nitrided” steel receiver. CZ 600 Trail CZ 600 Trail The Trail has a PDW-style telescopic stock and BREN 2 style controls. It has an AR-rifle-type grip. It would be a great rancher’s truck rifle. CZ 600 Ergo CZ 600 Ergo This model is not yet available in the U.S. It has a light-profile barrel that is equipped with a specially designed, fiber-reinforced polymer stock. Its stock length can be adjusted by replacing a rubber butt pad, which is available in three different sizes.

How to Hunt Alaska on a Budget Have You Ever Tried This? Alaska hunting is the stuff of dreams, yet many convince themselves it’s beyond their reach. This is easy to understand, as guided Alaska hunts are some of the most expensive around. Single-species hunts for mountain goat, dall sheep and brown bear run anywhere from $9,000 to $14,000. A guided hunt for even “commonplace” barren ground caribou might finance a multi-species hunt in southern Africa. For the average working stiff, a do-it-yourself hunt is the only way to enjoy such an expedition. If daunted by such an adventure, especially its costs, I understand. Yet, after 10 Alaska forays of my own, I’m here to say that with plenty of advanced planning and a meager savings-account grab-stake, an Alaska hunt is well within grasp. While the sexiest Alaskan species require the non-resident to hire an outfitter by law, many don’t. These include barren ground caribou, Alaska-Yukon moose, Sitka blacktail deer and black bear — all animals you can hunt on your own for a considerable savings. Drop-Camp Options The first-time Alaska adventurer is advised to book a drop-camp hunt. This involves hiring a flying service to ferry you and gear to productive ground (of their choosing). Various degrees of services are offered, price adjusted accordingly. At its most basic, you’re simply taxied in and dropped off, with your own truck. Or, opt for a fully outfitted camp, all necessary camping gear and food provided. You bring only a sleeping bag, duds and hunting gear. Other options include a mid-hunt visit, in case meat should need to be flown out, or more importantly, should you require a move. These options increase expenses but also provide cheap insurance against bum experiences. When dealing with a reputable operator, drop camps provide a better chance of arriving in the right place at the right time. The best pilots keep a close eye on game movements and whereabouts to assure they’re able to set clients in the best areas. The best flying services are also typically willing to spend a bit of extra time in the air on arrival, giving you a better grasp of the land, perhaps spotting game, before landing. Drop-camp arrangements are normally charged at a flat rate per person, even if additional meat-hauling trips are required following a successful hunt. Shop carefully. Unfortunately, cheats abound in all walks of life, and Alaska bush services have more than their share. The unscrupulous outfits simply dump hunters where it’s convenient for them, not necessarily where game is most abundant. Ask for a list of references, preferably recent bookings — hunters from both successful and unsuccessful ventures. If they’re reluctant to provide such information, find an operator who will. References simply assure fewer surprises, confirming services are as presented and hidden costs minimal. Talking to someone who’s been there also helps you pack more efficiently. Where to Hunt? We’ve researched a few places to help you get started on your Alaskan adventure. Pick your species and then dive in to the places below: Moose Marshes Anchorage: Stony, Hoholitna and Mulchatna rivers and the Lake Clark region. Hunting is complicated by September hunt dates, typically concluding before the rut begins. Increase your odds of calling success by arriving late in the season. As with any gun-dog training, simple commands work best. Hand signals can do plenty as you approach the waterfowl-holding location. And at the moment of truth, just before the flush, you can do many things. Cordova: Some behemoth bulls, but non-residents are limited to a single unit and limited number of landing sites. Success dependent on hunting pressure in those few places. Contact Cordova Air for more info. McGrath & Kotzebue: Near McGrath; Iditarod, Innoko, Galena and Yukon rivers top producers of trophy bulls. Some float-only areas restrict fly-in. Areas near Kotzeboe and Brooks Range worthwhile but include added transportation costs, though better odds of rut action. Caribou Coverts Anchorage: The easily-accessible Mulchatna herd has crashed and success is low in traditional areas. Super Cub access can get you into new migration patterns at added costs. Alaska Peninsula: King Salmon area provides quality caribou hunting and trophy potential. Some Peninsula islands worth investigating; little hunting pressure but increased transportation costs. Kotzeboe & Brooks Range: The stable Porcupine herd offers super hunting, but once again, added transportation costs and travel time make these areas less popular. Trophy quality is top-notch. Pipeline Haul Road, Fairbanks: Rare opportunity to hunt from a rented vehicle; bowhunting only due to adjacent Alaska Pipeline. Consult area game biologist for best dates. Black Bear Bush Alaska Southeast: Areas surrounding Ketchikan and Juneau allow Pacific Northwest residents to drive. Prince of Wales Island hunted via network of highways, ferry system and logging roads. Boats allow access to remote ocean shores. Spring baiting legal and productive. Fall spot-and-stalk also highly productive, especially while cruising remote seashores, or hunting salmon streams from August to September. Cordova & Valdez: Extremely productive, glassing open hillsides of new growth (spring) or berries (fall). Concentrate efforts along salmon rivers during August and September, though brown bears are common (and very aggressive). Deer Destinations Alaska Southeast: Accessing lesser-known islands is highly productive, but costly. Look to Trinity, Amook, Zarembo and Sitkinak islands — and others surrounding these. Cordova: In general, Hinchinbrook and Montague islands are hunted hard and trophy quality is poor, though backpacking high and far from access can net bigger bucks. Prince of Wales Island: Consistently produces top-end bucks, though hunting complicated by thick vegetation. Backpack into high alpine areas immediately following August opener or hunt low during the November rut. Hunting accessed via 4WD. Kodiak Island: Large die-offs during the past few years, but big bucks still taken and success fair. Open terrain makes hunting easier. Areas on the southern end is best, but include costly floatplane rides. Areas close to Kodiak City allow access from boat/vehicle, but hunting is difficult and the limit is one deer.

Brzi u letu pokazuju pravi aerobatik.

Dnes patří Křivoklát státu, probíhají v něm restaurátorské práce a archeologický výzkum.

5 Ducks That Probably Really Ticked You Off This Season Waterfowlers can commiserate over their encounters with these birds Depending on where and how you hunt, you probably experience several types of ducks that frustrate you year after year. Some birds don’t read the playbook and — gasp — adopt annoying behaviors that keep them alive and make you pull your hair out. I feel your pain. In fact, this past season I encountered quite a few ducks that really ticked me off. Maybe you can relate. Mallards Enough said. They’re just evil. Moving on … Vanishing Wood Ducks Given my druthers, I love to see relatively wet springs, which replenish wetlands and help boost duck production, but slightly dry autumns, which eliminate many seasonal wetlands to which ducks can disperse when the shooting starts. No dice this year. Late-summer rains gave local ducks plenty of places to hide, and they took full advantage. My go-to wood duck hole was jammed with birds before the opener. Yet after two decent hunts, those birds vanished. Knowing they wouldn’t have migrated so early, I scoured the neighborhood, searching for clues. I didn’t have to look far. A small patch of sheet water in a cattle yard right off the highway was loaded with woodies. I stopped counting at 30. And then I pulled up onX to seek other hunting areas. Lemming Bluebills Every diver hunter has experienced this: A flock of ducks lands short of your decoys, and during the next few hours, every diver in the flyway cups its wings and lands with them, turning you from a duck hunter into a bird-watcher. I did it to myself this past season. Every afternoon, a huge raft of bluebills formed in a remote bay near my house. Not wanting to haze ducks, I set up about a mile from the X one afternoon, hoping to traffic birds going to and from the area. Instead, I watched black-and-white rockets power-dive into the bay while easily avoiding my pathetic decoy spread. The 2021 lesser scaup population was about 3-plus million, and it seemed as though we saw roughly 2.5 million of those that day. Gadwalls 3.0 Twenty years ago, hunting gaddies on the prairies seemed ridiculously easy. Anything worked, and gray ducks almost always returned to a slough after being jumped. Nowadays, hunting pressure has turned them into another animal. Stale gray ducks are almost as bad as educated mallards, jumping from slough to slough and reassembling at the speed of a group of fall gobblers. Yet there we were in late October, plying 20-year-old tactics on the prairies, and then watching as gaddies vanished or simply landed in the middle of large sloughs and stayed there. Even putting them to bed didn’t work; a slough jammed with 250-plus birds one evening morphed into empty water overnight. We still shot plenty of birds, but they made us work, and we had to be on point with our setups and approaches. Come to think of it, that might actually have been more enjoyable than simply jumping birds from a slough and then pounding limits in a half-hour. Maybe. The Straight-at-You-Out-of-the-Sun Merganser Well, it appears we’re out of space for this installment, so I won’t be able to describe this bird — heh-heh, assuming it actually happened. And no, you can’t see the pictures.
