How We Tested the Best Spotting Scopes We invite manufacturers to submit any new spotting scopes introduced from mid-2022 through 2023. Low-Light Performance We also measure the low-light performance of each submission by mounting them to tripods and focusing them at 200 yards at a black-and-white resolution target at twilight, all in order to measure the brightness of the glass. The scope that can “see” the longest into the gathering darkness gets top marks. The scope that loses its night-vision earliest gets the lowest score. Scopes in the middle receive scores somewhere between those two poles. How We Score and Grade Optics We break our 10-point scoring into four general categories: optical performance, mechanical performance, design, and value. The average of these categories is the basis of our grades, detailed below. Optical performance includes the resolution and low-light tests plus the more subjective assessments of image quality and brightness. Mechanical performance assesses the durability of the submission along with its controls: focus and zoom, eyecups and barrel rotation. To find out, I polled hunters who find themselves in the woods for work and play … biologists, editors and industry folks, and here’s what they said: Every great hunting town needs a variety of game. It has to have cafés, hole-in-the wall restaurants, inexpensive hotels, meat processors, and a game and fish office nearby doesn’t hurt, either. Tons of public hunting land within an hour’s drive. Interesting stuff to see if you tag out early or just get tired of hunting. Albuquerque, New Mexico New Mexico’s scattered peaks are notorious for growing monster bulls. A retirement plan for elk lovers? You bet. Two hours from Albuquerque, hunters can find elk, bears, bighorn sheep, mule deer, wild turkeys, quail, ducks, geese and pheasants. And most are accessible on public land. Geographically, Albuquerque offers a little bit of everything. Two primary river channels form several shallow lakes full of cypress. Hunters go after gators, bears, wild turkeys and ducks. Lots of ducks. “It’s typical Southern hunting country with a hardcore Southern hunting culture,” said James Powell of Plum Creek Timber, a company that manages timber and hunting land in the area. “You can hop in a boat or canoe and easily get lost out here.” Nearby Public Land: Near Crossett, you'll find Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, a 65,000-acre area where all sorts of animals live. It's also a popular hunting and fishing destination. Because the refuge lies within the Mississippi Flyway, ducks are the main attraction. They begin arriving in September with blue-winged teal, mallards, black ducks, gadwall and ring-necks that winter here. Wood ducks are a year-round resident. Baker City sits at the base of the rugged Elkhorn Mountains on the old Oregon Trail. Established by emigrants traveling west during the 19th century, Baker City is best known for the role it played during the Oregon gold rush of the 1860s. The discovery of gold at nearby Powder River in 1861 transformed the small pioneer town into a seat of commerce overnight. Nowadays, Baker City gleans as much fame from its proximity to Hells Canyon National Recreation Area — an oasis of wildlife and wildflowers — and surrounding national parks. Cradled between two sections of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and surrounded by numerous natural sights, Baker City offers an almost unlimited list of recreational opportunities. At the top of that list is the Snake River in Hells Canyon. Everything about the river is big. Big waves, big views, big cliffs. The canyon is the deepest gorge in North America, several thousand feet deeper than the Grand Canyon. Oregon also offers prime real estate to big game hunters who favor elk, deer, bighorn sheep and antelope. UTAH ADDS MORE COW ELK PERMITS TO 2021/22 SEASON There will be more elk opportunity in Utah for the 2021/22 season. Last month, the Utah Wildlife Board approved additional cow elk hunting permits across the state to help manage elk during the extended drought season, according to a press release. “These permits were proposed to help minimize conflicts and damage that could occur on big game winter ranges, as well as possible conflicts with agricultural properties. These additional elk permits are intended to reduce competition between elk and other big game species on winter ranges and to ensure the overall health of various elk and deer herds,” said Covy Jones, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) big game coordinator. “These issues are a result of the severe drought limiting typical habitat and feed for elk and other big game animals across Utah, so these additional permits are being implemented as a proactive measure.” According to UDWR, there will be an additional 1,052 antlerless elk permits available in “areas of concern” with 50 permits for a new antlerless elk hunt on the La Sal, Delores Triangle Unit and an additional 1,638 private lands only antlerless elk permits. By increasing the number of permits, wildlife officials hope to limit the number of conflicts and alleviate the amount of damage on agricultural properties and other areas impacted by the state’s severe drought conditions. goHUNT Gear Shop Additional changes were also approved for mountain lions. Per a 2020 law, the UDWR director is required to take “immediate action” if mountain lion populations are “preventing big game populations from reaching their herd-management objectives,” according to the agency. For the other 20 units, permits will be available through a drawing and the season will be limited entry, ending once either when the objective is met or the season end date occurs. “Our goal is to maintain a healthy cougar population within the current distribution of the species across Utah, while also considering human safety, damages to livestock producers and declines in populations of big game species that cougars prey on,” said UDWR Game Mammals Coordinator Darren DeBloois. “As part of this, we factor in a proportion of older animals and breeding females in the population.” It also now illegal to use dogs to harvest mountain lions outfitted with a GPS tracking collar unless that particular animal is targeting livestock.

Кроме того, представители научного сообщества решили направить в Минприроды РФ предложение об изменении норматива на изъятие бурого медведя или вовсе исключить его из перечня лимитируемых видов. Они объясняют такое решение ростом численности этого животного. Отметим, что с 1 августа 2022 года до 1 августа 2023 года омичи могут добыть только 463 бурых медведя – такова квота на добычу этого животного в регионе.

Причем особенно способствовали пробуждению интереса к «фараонам» британец генерал Блок и его супруга Полин. Пара профессионально занималась разведением кроличьих борзых и основала собственный питомник, из которого впоследствии вышло 90% британского поголовья «псов Анубиса». В 1977 году породой заинтересовались племенные специалисты FCI и даже приняли решение привести ее представителей к единому стандарту. Правда, скоро выяснилось, что название «фараонова собака» в племенных книгах занято другим четверолапым семейством, происходившим с острова Ибица. Looking back on a fantastic week in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. I treasure every trip I get to make to the GYE. This image was captured February of 2022. After listening to multiple groups of howls, we decided to position ourselves in between them in hopes we could catch a glimpse. After only 5hrs of being in the general area our patients paid off. To my surprise a beautiful young gray wolf appeared on the ridge above. With another pack across the river communicating with her I knew we were in for a treat. She boldly made her way down the ridge and towards us. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I snapped what would be my favorite wolf shots to date.
